The Ministry of Health has established a four-member Technical Review Committee to mediate operational and labor tensions within the laboratory services at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH).
The decision follows a high-level meeting on May 5, 2026, which brought together hospital management, the Medical Laboratory Professionals Workers’ Union (MELPWU), and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Doctors Association (KODA).
Committee Mandate and Leadership
Tasked with finding an “amicable, objective, and sustainable resolution,” the committee will conduct an administrative and technical audit of professional collaboration and management structures at the facility. The team is chaired by Alhaji Dr. (Pharm) Inua I. Yusuf, the Ministry’s Head of Legal.
The other members include:
– Zanu Dassah: Deputy Director of Human Resource Development at the Ghana Health Service.
– Isaac Maalma-Kaminta: Deputy Chief Labour Officer from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment.
– John Kudjo Ntedado: Committee Secretary.
Origins of the Conflict
The intervention aims to de-escalate long-standing friction regarding governance, professional roles, and operational control within the hospital’s laboratory ecosystem. These disagreements have recently threatened service delivery at Ghana’s premier referral and teaching institution.

The committee has been instructed to engage all affected stakeholders and provide formal recommendations to restore professional harmony. Official correspondence regarding the committee’s formation has been distributed to the Minister of Health, KBTH leadership, and the heads of the involved professional unions.
