The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, has directed the Ablekuma West Municipal Assembly to demolish structures obstructing the free flow of water by Wednesday, June 3, following recent flooding incidents in parts of the municipality.
The directive was issued during an inspection tour of severely affected communities within the Ablekuma West Municipality as part of an ongoing post-flood impact assessment exercise.
The tour was conducted by the Regional Minister together with the Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West, George Kpakpo Allotey, and officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO).
The team inspected flood-prone areas to assess the extent of damage caused by the floods, evaluate drainage vulnerabilities, and coordinate immediate response measures aimed at preventing future occurrences.
During the exercise, the Regional Minister expressed concern about structures built along waterways and drainage channels, noting that such developments continue to worsen flooding in the area.
She subsequently directed the Municipal Chief Executive to ensure the demolition of all structures blocking waterways to allow the free flow of water and reduce the risk of future flooding.
“I will be here on Wednesday to inspect again,” she stressed.
