The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, together with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), will hold an X Spaces discussion on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 1 PM to address concerns surrounding the proposed NITA Bills and Ghana’s digital future.
According to a flyer shared online by the ministry, the discussion will focus on “The NITA Bills and Ghana’s Digital Future: Responding to Stakeholder Concerns.”
The engagement comes amid growing public debate on social media and across sections of the technology industry over proposed regulatory frameworks and fees linked to the NITA Bills and related digital governance policies.
Recent concerns raised by stakeholders, startups, developers, fintech operators, e-commerce businesses and digital rights advocates have centred on accreditation fees, licensing requirements, compliance obligations and fears that the proposals could affect innovation and increase operational costs for small technology businesses.
NITA has, however, defended its regulatory mandate, stating that existing ICT registration and accreditation fees are backed by current laws and Legislative Instruments (LIs) already passed by Parliament, and not by the proposed bills currently under consultation.
The agency has also acknowledged concerns from startups and innovation-focused businesses regarding affordability and implementation, stating that government remains open to stakeholder engagement on issues such as fee adjustments, startup exemptions and SME protections.
NITA has been conducting public consultations on several draft digital governance bills, including the Electronic Transactions Bill, 2025, as part of efforts to update Ghana’s ICT regulatory framework.
The upcoming X Spaces discussion is expected to provide further clarification on the proposed bills and government’s digital transformation agenda.
