The Paramount Chief of Great Ningo, Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII – Great Ningo, led members of the Great Ningo Traditional Council to the Ningo-Prampram district today to meet the DCE, Hon. Raphael Nartey, and other stakeholders to express their concerns over the water crisis in some communities within Great Ningo, including the Paramount town, Old Ningo. In his speech at the conference hall of the district office, he stated that as the rulers and mouthpiece of every household in Great Ningo, it is their responsibility to address issues affecting the progress of the people and find solutions to their problems.
However, since this issue is beyond their jurisdiction, they have come to seek answers from the DCE, who represents the government, and to be led to the head of the institution responsible for water distribution. He expressed disappointment that neighboring towns receive drinking water every 2 days, while they are completely neglected.
He also mentioned that water truck suppliers complained that Prampram refuses to sell water to them, which they would then sell to customers in Old Ningo and surrounding communities, because after buying water for as low as GH30, the truck suppliers sell it for GH130. As a result, they have halted the sale of water until a reasonable price is agreed upon.
He further stated that due to the water crisis, he was embarrassed at the traditional council, and all members can testify that there is no water in town. The youth of Ningo have even threatened to stone them at their next meeting, saying they have not shown concern over the crisis. He concluded by requesting the DCE to lead them to the proper authority, as he represents the government.
In response, the DCE said they’re working on the problem and it’s a big headache for him. Together with Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII and the entire Great Ningo Traditional council members, he’ll lead them to the regional manager to seek answers and solutions. He also told the chiefs about his plans to construct 5 boreholes to ease the situation whenever there’s a water crisis.
