The Ghana Police Service has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was abducted in the Eastern Region and arrested a female suspect linked to the incident.
According to a police statement, the Odumase Krobo District Command received a report on April 19, 2026, from the child’s father after she left home and failed to return.
Investigations led officers, with support from personnel of the Bureau of National Investigations at the Kotoka International Airport, to arrest the suspect, Regina Mamle Tawiah, aged 36, and safely recover the child.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was trying to send the victim to Kenya,” the statement said.
Police confirmed that the girl has since been reunited with her father.
The suspect has been arraigned before the Odumase Krobo Circuit Court, where she pleaded not guilty and was remanded into custody.
She is expected to reappear in court on May 5, 2026.
