WHEN TRUTH RETURNS TO THE STOOL HOUSES: THE WHEELS OF TRADITION ARE OILED

“When truth stands in the shrine, the clan aligns and the land finds order.”

Among the GaDaŋme, truth was never a matter of opinion; it was sacred order. It was embedded in the stool, guarded by the shrine, spoken by the Wulɔmɔ, and preserved in ancestral memory. When truth is displaced, confusion enters the house; when truth is restored, authority regains legitimacy.

As Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, aptly states: “When truth stands in GaDaŋme tradition, everything else must follow.”

Our customs were not designed for disorder. They were structured upon moral balance between chief and priest, elder and youth, clan and state. In Ga cosmology, truth (Anukwale) is not merely factual accuracy; it is alignment with ancestral covenant and communal justice.

When truth departs, authority becomes personality, custom becomes manipulation, and leadership becomes spectacle. But when truth returns, the stool regains sanctity, the shrine regains voice, and the clan regains unity. This is not nostalgia; it is constitutional memory.

The GaDaŋme traditional system was never anarchic. It was regulated through spiritual accountability and communal oversight. The Wulɔmɔ did not rule by popularity, nor the Mantse by propaganda. Each office existed within sacred limits. Power was restrained by custom. Leadership was disciplined by ritual responsibility.

Truth, therefore, is not rebellion against tradition; it is the defense of authentic tradition.

Today, the distortion of custom for personal interest threatens the moral architecture of GaDaŋme society. Selective history, sentimental reinterpretation, and imposed narratives weaken generational continuity. But truth corrects exaggeration. Truth exposes opportunism. Truth restores sequence and order.

If we are to preserve GaDaŋme dignity, we must return to:

    1. Historical accuracy over factional myth.

    2. Customary law over emotional agitation.

    3. Communal accountability over individual ambition.

    Let it be declared:

Truth in GaDaŋme is not hostility; it is purification.

Truth is not division; it is alignment.

Truth is not disrespect; it is reverence for ancestral covenant.

When truth returns to the stool, the shrine regains authority.

When truth returns to the clan, the youth regain direction.

When truth returns to custom, the land regains stability.

“When truth stands in GaDaŋme tradition, everything else must follow.”

    Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

    Thank you, Nana.
