Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has deployed 200 National Service Personnel to detect illegal connections and educate customers on digital payment options, aiming to reduce arrears and encourage electronic payments.

The personnel, designated as GWL Field Agents, will operate across various regions and at locations convenient for their duties.
Each agent has been equipped with tablet devices monitored by GWL’s head office to enhance efficiency and accountability.
The initiative comes after data revealed that the Accra Region accounts for over 63% of total arrears, with more than GH¢800 million recorded as of December 2025.
Speaking at the launch of the Revenue Arrears Reduction and Electronic Payment Team, Managing Director Adam Mutawakilu clarified that the initiative complements, rather than replaces, the work of district offices.
“We have programmed these gadgets to geolocate our customers. When they queue in, the necessary information about the person comes up, guiding the agent directly to the customer. This will make their movement and operations much easier,” he explained.
